Today’s selfie-crazy generation has triggered a tough competition for big league brands to make better front-facing cameras. Every brand is doing their best to hog the limelight for having the best front camera. The new entry in this category is Micromax Canvas Selfie with the price tag of 15,999 INR.
As its name suggests, it has a selfie-friendly 13-megapixel front facing camera with LED flash and an inbuilt app that allows you to do change between many modes for better shots.
Design and Display :
This device has a most unique and impressive design by Micromax. It’s not the typical old candy bar shaped phone and is curved at the top and the bottom. It is available in two colours – Pearl White and Sapphire Blue. The phone has metallic edges with a faux leather back panel. The buttons on the edges are also made up of metal.
The volume rocker keys are on the left side of the phone and the camera button is on the right side. The power button is at the top of the body which is quite odd to use. The 3.5 mm audio jack is also at the top and USB is at the bottom of the device. Speakers are on the back side and Micromax has put the word ‘SELFIE’ above it.
The phone has 4.7-inch IPS LCD screen with 720p display. The screen is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3. The display is vibrant and colourful, and viewing angles are pretty good in this device.
Software and Hardware:
It runs on 1.7GHz octa-core Mediatek processor with 2GB of RAM. It has 16GB of internal memory expandable upto 32GB via microSD. Device shows an impressive performance in its processing. It runs on Android 4.4.2 KitKat with a preinstalled Micromax’s UI similar to that in Canvas Hue. The company has announced an update to Lollipop soon.
The SIM card tray has one Micro-SIM slot and one Nano-SIM. The SD card slot is with the Nano-SIM slot, which means you are forced to choose whether to use SD card or Nano-SIM for the slot. It also supports OTG and wireless connectivity as Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.
Performance and Battery:
In terms of performance it works smoothly and doesn’t show any lag. It works easily even with lots of apps open simultaneously. Games are also very enjoyable and don’t lag. Even heavy games like Asphalt 8 and Modern Combat 4 run perfectly. The AnTuTu benchmark and Quadrant Standard score is respectively 33525 and 13337 which is impressive and gives a boost to rank the ‘Selfie’ up in the price range.
It is powered by 2300mAh battery which is good but not sufficient for the device to last long. The device lasted for 7 and half hours in high usage and about a day with moderate use.
Camera and Sound:
Both the Front and Rear camera are of 13 megapixels and shoot really impressive photos with good detail. The rear camera has Dual LED flash on both sides of camera and the front camera has a single LED flash. The autofocus of the camera works fine at all times and shows no issue on tracking faces. The camera works absolutely fine and captures lots of detail with high colour contrast.
Performance of camera in low light is also pretty good- both front and rear works well with their respective flashes to give you a perfect shot. The speaker is at the back side of the mobile and has a good sound quality. The given set of earphones work fine. The call quality is good and gives no issues.
If you are a selfie lover and love taking a lot of pictures with your phone, it is a perfect phone for you with all its specs. The phone performed well in our test and did great in all the tasks. Even if you don’t have the camera as your basic need, you can go for it. But if you want even better specs, there are a lot of options in the market apart from this.
